Determination of the probability density function of height on a rough surface from far-field coherent light scattering
We show that if the first order probability density function of height on a rough surface is assumed to be symmetrical, it can be calculated from measurements of scattered coherent light made in and near the centre of the far-field. We derive the theory of the method and present some experimental results obtained for ground glass surfaces.
