The IEICE Transactions first became available in electronic format in August 1999. Since April 2006 individual members have received access to the online edition, the print edition being optional. In April 2009 Institutional Members began being granted a site license. As a result the Transactions are now generally read online, and ever fewer members request the optional print edition. At present the IEICE is taking steps to enhance services for users and improve online access to academic information. These include developing IEICE Knowledge Discovery (I-Scover), a new system for searching publications, and overhauling the existing system for refereeing and publishing articles.
