Indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) stimulated the growth (increase in dry weight) of the blue-green algaeAnacystis nidulans, Chlorogloea fritschii, Phormidium foveolarum, Nostoc muscorum, Anabaena cylindrica, andTolypothrix tenuisand the green algaeChlorella pyrenoidosa, Ankistrodesmus falcatusandScenedesmus obliquusgrowing under as sterile conditions as possible. The optimum concentration varied from species to species; in the blue-green algae it ranged from 10-5to 10-9M and in the green algae it was 10-3M. These results are discussed in the light of present studies in this field.
