A gasoline unit malfunctioned on 20 November at Mo- tiva’s 600,000 b/d refnery in Port Arthur, Texas. The refner reported a process unit upset on equipment associated with a fuid catalytic cracking (FCC) unit and an alkylation unit that led to 18 hours of increased emissions beginning at 11am ET, according to a fling to state hazardous materials monitors. Fluid catalytic cracking converts gasoil primarily to gasoline blendstocks. Alkylation units produce high-octane blendstocks that are used in gasoline. Motiva is the US refning subsidiary of Saudi Aramco.
