The infrahyphen;red absorption of methyl mercaptan, agr;hyphen;methyl hydroxylamine, methyl nitrite, methyl formate, dimethyl ether, formamide, methyl fluoride, methyl chloride, methyl bromide and methyl iodide has been measured over the range 7000ndash;12,000A using low dispersion. The intense bands have been reexamined using higher dispersion. An analysis has been made of some bands in the spectra of the methyl halides. A parallel band of methyl fluoride suggests a moment of inertia of 33.7times;10mdash;40g cm2. The spacing between theQbranches in perpendicular type bands appears to be irregular, and other peculiarities are noticed which indicate that the simple theory may need modification.
