A series of studies was performed to investigate the problem of cellular telephone use while driving. Objective and subjective mental workload assessment were applied to measure the driver performance and behavior. The objectives were to investigate how the cellular telephone use affects driver's mental work load. Three experiments were conducted. The results shown that the problems originating from cellular telephone use while driving were not only operational questions. They also depended on the information processing capacity of drivers. Thus, it should be considered how the quantity and quality of information offered to the driver through devices affects driver's mental workload.
