The effect of the synergy between sterigmatocystin and a fungal metabolite on Bacillus subtilis

Component I (a metabolite isolated fromAspergillus nidulans) was shown to increase the cellular uptake of sterigmatocystin byBacillus subtilis.The uptake of sterigmatocystin by bacterial cells caused the induction of aberrant cellular forms and inhibited DNA synthesis with little effect on the synthesis of RNA and protein.
