For a well-mixed convective batch drying of grains a finite element simulation technique for a liquid diffusion model is employed to demonstrate the feasibility and advantages of operating the dryer by varying the temperature of the inlet dryinggas. It is assumed that drying occurs only in the falling rate period by liquid diffusion. It is shown that model-based control of the inlet air temperature or simple stepwise manual adjustment of the inlet air temperature is adequate to reduce the batchdrying time by 30.
