There is debate about the optimal position of the tension band wiring (TBW) hole. Even though a study expected that a more distal position of the TBW hole could provide slightly more compression at the osteotomy (Neat et al, 2006), there has been no conclusion on where the optimal location of TBW should be. The current study aimed to find the optimal location of the TBW hole for stability of the fractured olecranon. Under a simulated posture of 90° of elbow flexion, finite element analysis was performed using ABAQUS Standard v.6.5 (Providence, RI, USA). The left elbow joint of a healthy young volunteer (26 year-old, male) was scanned with computerised tomography (16 Helical, GE, CA, USA).
