In a move to recover PF dues, the regional provident fund commissioner (RPFC) has recently acquired excess industrial land of five jute mills in the state under relevant provisions of the PF Act to repay statutory dues of the defaulting companies. These five jute mills are : Howrah Jute Mill, New Central Jute Mill, Unit Union of NJMC, Titaghur Jute No. 1 and Premchand Jute. According to RPFC, Dr. A. Mahindra Raju, the excess land so acquired in five cases works out to be a little over 116 hectares and their PF dues amount to Rs. 1.04 crore, Rs 23 crore, Rs. 15 lakhs, Rs 16 crore and 85 lakh, respectively. Admittedly, the total PF dues of the five nationalised NJMC units is around Rs. 87.36 crore but he expects to recover the entire PF dues of all the units from the acquired land of unit Union as it happens to be the prime land in the heart of the city and is expected to fetch a premium price.
