Digenite, Cu_9S_5, is a somewhat uncommon sulfide of copper. It is probably more prevalent than we know because of the difficulty identifying it in a hand specimen. Digenite is unique in that it is presumed to have both cuprous and cupric ions. The mineral is easily confused with bornite, anilite, djurleite, stromeyerite, etc., in hand specimens. Specimens of digenite from Butte are generally associated with pyrite and quartz and may contain native silver as well.
