If you're staring at your computer's LCD monitor and wondering whether you can use it as an HDTV, the answer is yes and no. LCD monitors share some traits with their LCD HDTV cousins, but there are significant differences, too. For example, your monitor might have a 4-to-3 aspect ratio instead of 16-to-9 or, in the case of wide-screen LCD monitors, 16-to-10, which means you can't display a wide-screen HDTV picture to the display's best benefit. The native resolution of the display won't match the resolution you need for HDTV. But even if you have a wide-screen display that can handle HDTV's 720p or 1080p resolution, you'll still need a way to hook up an A/V source to the display. Most LCD monitors feature a VGA/D-Sub and/or a DVI connector, which means you won't be able to use an analog component-video cable.
