This paper presents high power factor converter using a coupled inductor. This converter consists of a boost converter operating in DCM to achieve power factor correction, and has an auxiliary winding, which suppresses the voltage increase on the energy storage capacitor at light load. The coupled inductor prevents the power factor from dropping due to adding of the auxiliary winding, so that high power factor is realized. It has been clarified from the experiment that the proposed converter is useful for power factor correction and suppressing the voltage increase on the energy storage capacitor at light load.
