Studies of iodipamide and sodium iopanoate salt excretion were carried out before and after the treatment of chronic bile fistula dogs with phenobarbital. All dogs were given a low level intravenous infusion replacement of sodium taurocholate. The phenobarbital pretreatment decreased iodipamide bile excretion and increased iopanoate bile excretion. Fundamental differences in the blood curves of iodipamide and iopanoate were observed. These differences in blood curves imply a difference in the hepatic kinetics of these two drugs.
