A preliminary study for estimation of characteristics slices to recognize pulmonary arteries and veins automatically

We propose a method to estimate characteristic slices for automatic recognition of pulmonary arteries and veins from 3D chest X-ray CT images. This method estimates the characteristic slices by using relative positional relationship between the bronchial branch and the pulmonary vessel. We applied the proposed method to three cases of real chest CT images and experimental results showed that the method could classify each vessel satisfactorily.
