Similar to inherent non-linearities in a control system, there are always some stray or unintentional coupling between different, portions of the control system. These unavoidable couplings may be due to imperfect alignment of the mechanical components or due to stray pick-up by the electric circuits. This paper describes the effects of some of these unwanted sources on a control system. An autofollower system was taken as the example of a typical control system. For optimum response calculation the model of the system was simulated in an analog computer. The simulated system was then subjected to various unwanted couplings and their effects were observed. Finally the necessary changes in the different parameters of the control system for optimum response were obtained with the help of the simulated system in presence of these couplings and the results are described from designer's point of view.
