HIV Infection: Educational Programs and Policies for School Personnel

ABSTRACT:Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) challenges schools as the frontline defense against this epidemic. School personnel should become knowledgeable about human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection and get involved in presenting quality HIV/AIDS education programs. This paper provides an epidemiological update on AIDS as it relates to the school‐age population. Evidence establishing modes of transmission is emphasized, and recommendations are presented for handling students infected with HIV.
