On 29 June 2015 a single specimen belonging to the family Laemophloeidae was beaten from a dead fallen but snagged and hence hanging branch of a Scots pine Pinus sylvestris at Wisley Common, Surrey TQ0658. This keyed out as Leptophloeus alter nans (Erichson) using Vogt (1967) and Lefkovitch (1959), a species new to Britain. On a visit to the Natural History Museum, London I was able to compare my specimen, a female, with a number of specimens standing under the same name in the European collection; my specimen (Fig. 1) appeared to be a good match on the basis of external characteristics.
