Dr Jason Jackson, Technical Specialist at Goodfellow Cambridge, explains how close collaboration helped to find the elusive materials required to illuminate emergency and evacuation tunnels for CERN. DPA finds out more... Materials science is a critical - yet often undervalued - field that plays a fundamental role in shaping the world around us. By deepening our understanding of their properties and behaviour, we can create new materials and improve existing ones. This will empower engineers and RD specialists to create revolutionary applications and solve ongoing issues that impact our daily lives. It will also allow sectors, such as healthcare, energy and aerospace, to introduce new technologies, with many of these focused on sustainability and protecting the planet.
