THE United Nations Compensation Commission, a subsidiary of the UN Security Council, has completed $52.4 billion worth of payments in compensation related to Iraq's invasion of Kuwait three decades ago. The payments were made to individuals, organisations and governments in Kuwait, as part of a series of naysts made to the Arab nation for losses incurred in the invasion that triggered the Gulf War in the early 1990s. "Following the conclusion of claims processing, the commission awarded $52.4 billion to approximate 1.5 million successful claims from individuals, corporations, governments and international organisations," it said.
