Indian state-controlled utility NTPC will stop acquiring land for greenfield thermal projects and expand its focus on renewables to reduce its carbon footprint. With the decision, NTPC joins a number of private- sector utilities such as Tata Power in halting investments in new thermal power projects. Adani Power, India's largest private-sector utility, has not announced any new thermal power projects over the past three years, although it has made some acquisitions. Tata has expanded its focus on renewables, while Adani has emerged as a major global solar power company through its renewable energy firm Adani Green Energy.
