The growing number and severity of extreme weather events continue to impact electric companies and their customers and communities. For example, in 2021, the Gulf Coast of the United States was struck by five major hurricanes. Mother Nature's assaults on the energy grid negatively impact residents and businesses and make improving grid resilience an immediate imperative. An investor-owned electric company in the southeastern United States knew it had to harden its energy grid and had allocated funds to do so, and they needed a dependable and defendable plan to support the work. With more than 150,000 power poles stretched across its territory, the company needed to prioritize which poles could withstand the most extreme weather conditions and which required remediation to ensure the best value for its investment.
