A project to run fibre optic cabling through water pipes to detect leaks and provide broadband internet services has received ￡1.2m in government funding. Yorkshire Water is working with Arcadis and Strathclyde University to deliver the Fibre in Water project, which aims to reduce water leaks by putting fibre sensors in pipes, allowing water companies to improve the speed and accuracy of detecting and repairing leaks.
