I was incredibly sad to learn that Harold "Hal" Williamson, P.E., passed away on July 26. I had the great honor of working with Hal for nearly 20 years on the American Nuclear Society's Professional Engineering Examination Committee (PEEC), for which he was a past chair, and the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Nuclear Professional Engineering Examination Committee. Hal joined ANS in 1957 when he first received his professional engineer license. His career spanned more than six decades and included engineering and engineering management roles. His exemplary service to the engineering profession, specifically in the area of professional engineering examination policy and development, included 15 years of service on the NCEES Chemical Examination Development Committee, 10 years on the Washington Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, three years as a member of the NCEES Examinations for Professional Engineers Committee, and one year as a member of the NCEES Examination Policies and Procedures Committee. In 2017, Hal was awarded the NCEES Distinguished Examination Service Award in recognition of his profound contributions to engineering professional licensure and to the development of engineering professional licensing examinations. Hal was also active in both the National Society of Professional Engineers and Washington Society of Professional Engineers, where he received many honors and awards, including Fellow of the NSPE.
