Authors determined effect of pour on ivermectin on natural Toxascaris leonina infestations in dog. After confirming infestation by adult worms, 0.5 mg kg Ivermectin pour-on was administrated to 60 infected street dogs. Feces from 60 were subjected toWillis and MacMaster tests for T leonina eggs at days 1, 7, 21 and 28 days after treatment. We found 13 or 22 of 60 dogs tested for eggs to be infested by Toxascaris leonina with mean egg count of 137. Results showed that prevalence of Toxascaris leonina infestations was 21.7. Treatment with pour on ivermectin, reduced egg counts 21.2 at day, 43.1 by 7 days, 88.3 by 21 days and 98.5 by 28 days. Contact time of parasite with ivermectin rather than its dose may be more effective justifying slow release delivery in dogs.
