Swiss dairy organisation BO Milch has applied to the Federal Office for Agriculture to import 1,000 tons of butter. It comes after the commission assessed the butter market based on current data. Based on existing parameters, it points to a lack of 2,700 tons of butter for 2022 in Switzerland. President of the Association of Austrian Milk Processors Helmut Petschar says exports increased by 3 to €1.1 billion in the first three quarters of 2021, while imports of €617 million decreased by 2. The most important foreign trade product of the Austrian dairy industry is still cheese, which covers more than half of the volume in export and import. The average rate for cheese exports is €4.22/kg, above the €3.91/ kg for imported goods. Prices in the German dairy market have increased, according to Germany's IFE Institute in Kiel. The Kiel raw material value milk reached a historical high of €0.524 per kilogram in December. The annual Kiel raw material 2021 value is €0.39/kg and 26 higher than in 2020. The IFE Institute estimates an average value of around €0.36/kg milk for 2021, 10 over 2020 prices.
