Preliminary research on liquid electrode in electrocatalysis

One strategy for developing improved catalysts is to create systems that merge the advantages of heterogeneous substances. Here, we further develop this idea and describe a liquid-liquid interface consisting of liquid metal (alloy) and aqueous solution for gas electrocatalysis. Following the application of our designed device, it is possible to make the gas bubble from the liquid metal and then encounter and react with electrons and protons delivered respectively by liquid metal and aqueous solution at the interface. This work proposes a usage of liquid electrode, taking electrocatalytic CO2 reduction as an example, obtaining higher Faraday efficiency and space-time yield for formate production.
