Over the Christmas break I took advantage of the peace and quiet to reply to emails and letters from AIR International readers, something I had delayed until I could give it sufficient time and focus. We are lucky to have readers who are deeply committed to the magazine and who feel comfortable sharing their thoughts with the editorial team. Reading their messages was a humbling experience and reminded me how lucky I am to be at the helm of this publication. In particular, these letters underscored the breadth of the subjects covered in AIR International, the scope of which continues to grow, reflecting the ever-evolving aviation sector. This issue is no exception. Our cover story takes an in-depth look at Airbus's pioneering Flightlab project, recently expanded to include rotorcraft. Designed to evaluate emerging technologies, the RD programme explores everything from autonomous flight to noise reduction and lower-carbon fuels - but from the sky rather than the laboratory, thanks to its specially kitted-out H130. Read about it on page 80.
