Ulsan-Saudi Aramco, through its S-Oil affiliate, is planning to spend $7-billion to develop a refinery-integrated petrochemical steam cracker at its site in Ulsan, South Korea. The Shaheen project, which would represent the first commercialization of Aramco and Lummus Technology's thermal crude-to-chemicals (TC2C) technology, is planned to have the capacity to produce up to 3.2-million t/y of petrochemicals and include a facility to produce high-value polymers. Construction is expected to begin in 2023 and be completed by 2026.
