As a woman who spent five years of my life entirely bald,I know the effects of subconscious bias.I was addressed as'oy mister'from the back and'poor you'from the front.But no,it wasn't cancer.I was diagnosed with alopecia at the age of 14,then with Pernicious Anaemia a year ago.I have been on Vitamin B12 injections since that second diagnosis,which had the unexpected side effect of dramatic hair regrowth! Whether or not that means my original diagnosis was incorrect I have no idea.If you do,please do get in touch.Yes,I am well aware I should get a new headshot for this page but I'm still in a state of disbelief and habitually avoid the camera for obvious reasons.But,for those who have not been as miraculously fortunate,I can offer this advice:wear Doc Martin boots.There is something about the combination of bald and these boots(whatever your gender I suspect),that will ensure you never again have to feel conflicted because some stranger has randomly offered you a hug for being brave.
