Modern timber-frame design: an introduction

Timber-frame construction has been limitedto multistorey structures no taller than 18m.There are several types of timber-frameconstruction, but the most commonly used inthe UK is platform timber frame. Platform-frameconstruction is used in structures with a cellularplanform where walls are used as loadbearingelements and to provide overall stability withfloors acting as diaphragms.
