The issue of transgender and gender diversity (TGD) is a source of great social, political and medical controversy. It is is even a greater challenge for pre-pubertal children, adolescents and young adults who are having issues of gender identity and these families will be presenting to the medical profession to ask for help. There is increasing research on the health and well-being of TGD young people and it is clear that compared with cisgender peers, TGD youth are at increased risk for adverse mental health outcomes.
