Japanese oak wilt is a fungal disease affecting oak trees. It is caused by the fungi Raffaelea quercivora and spread by the vector Platypus quercivorus. The disease causes social and environmental threats due to its impacts on biodiversity, changes inforest species composition or damage or infrastructures. The vector is found in India, Indonesia, New Guinea, Taiwan, and other tropical countries but it is commonly known for vectoring the fungus responsible for excessive oak diebacK m Japan. The firstdetection happened in 1925, and from then until the 1980s the disease's contagion areas were located in restricted area on the west coast of Honshu. From 1980 the beetle reached epidemic populations extending its range to the east coast of Honshu. During the latest years the spread disease reached the Kanto Region increasing the alert level for the presence of the pathogen withm the territory.
