The transgender population is defined collectively as people whose sense of personal identity and gender does not correspond with their biological sex, and those who do not conform to societal gender norms or roles1. It is difficult to know exact numbers of people identifying as transgender in the world at present, due to the lack of reporting of gender identity in population surveys, however there has been a definite increase in the population in recent years.
