Potato growers know that tuber number and size matters! Seed growers want many small tubers, while fresh growers want the correct ratio of C, B, and A-sized tubers, and chip and russet growers have a specific tuber size range for finished product. Tubers that are too big can increase bruising, take up space in trucks and storage, and can have poor quality. Undersized tubers are not marketable, can reduce airflow in bins, and take resources from the plants that could have been used for sizing desirable sized tubers. When tuber size is not correct, returns are diminished.
