The 11th annual National Drive Electric Week (NDEW), which was held September 25-October 3, highlighted the many environmental, economic, and customer benefits of electric transportation. Across the country, EEI's member companies participated in NDEW and are partnering with communities and stakeholders to support the growth of electric vehicles (EVs) while continuing to invest in and build EV charging infrastructure. Carbon emissions from the U.S. electric power sector are at their lowest level in more than 40 years, and will continue to fall. Through increasing electrification, the transportation sector also is getting cleaner. Electric transportation provides many benefits for customers and communities: among them are improving local air quality and helping to drive deep carbon reductions in the transportation sector-which is the largest domestic source of carbon emissions. Electric transportation also saves customers money: EV drivers spend the equivalent of about $1.21 per gallon, based on average residential electric rates, and they spend less in maintenance costs than traditional equivalents.
