Critical factors affecting the introduction of mobile payment tools by microretailers

摘要

Mobile payment (MP) is a key tool for establishing a cashless society. To comprehensively examine the critical factors (CFs) that influence the introduction of MP tools by microretailers (MRs) in Taiwan, this study employed the technology-organization-environment model as a theoretical basis. Two multicriteria decision-making tools (i.e., the analytic network process and Vlse Kriterijumska Optimizacija Kompromisno Resenje concept of acceptable advantage) were combined to objectively identify the CFs influencing MRs' introduction of MP tools. The results indicate that technology is more essential than organization and environment, and the eight identified CFs are security/trust, compatibility, usability, stability, complexity, organizational scale, government support, and information maturity. These CFs and the hybrid method form the basis for the findings and academic contributions of this study. The results serve as incisive and practical guidelines that can help MRs to introduce MP tools, encourage MP use by consumers, and promote the establishment of a cashless society.
