Established by the OSH Act of 1970, OSHA began operations on April 28, 1971. To celebrate the organization's 50th anniversary, OSHA has produced a video highlighting major milestones throughout the decades, such as: 1.establishing whis-tleblower protections and standards for asbestos, lead, carcinogens and cotton dust in the 1970s, 2.creating the Voluntary Protection Programs and new standards on safety testing and certification of workplace equipment in the 1980s, 3.issuing the Process Safety Management standard in the 1990s, 4.protecting the safety and health of recovery workers following the Sept. 11,2001, attacks and Hurricane Katrina in the 2000s, and 5.performing response and cleanup for the Deepwater Horizon oil spill and the COVID-19 response in the 2010s and beyond.
