摘要

Potteric Carr nature reserve is a Yorkshire Wildlife Trust reserve on the southern edge of Doncaster. Having started in 1986 as a 12ha marsh (Low Ellers marsh), it has now increased in extent considerably. The main nature reserve is around 220ha, butadjacent land at Carr Lodge and Manor Farm adds another 35ha and 12ha respectively, with further extensions on the cards in the near future. However, the name Potteric Carr is an old one and refers to a much wider area than the fairly easily defined nature reserve now (the M18 and railways forming a set boundary). This makes finding historic records that are confirmed to be from the current nature reserve and not a wider area much more difficult. So within this article historic records are generally for the wider area (although usually from the nature reserve) and recent ones for the small area of Potteric Carr nature reserve only.
