摘要

Regular narrowboaters know the routine. It comes around like clockwork and the changing seasons, but novices need to think about what's required. Cruising need not imply that you're always going to see summer and autumn as ideal times. Being humans, we all have our preferred times of year and many simply love a chilly, crisp morning in late autumn or a snowy scene in December or January. For most, however, it is the busy summer months that sees us want to scratch the proverbial itch to be back on the water. So, April to October is, for most people, the ideal time of year. Being away for an extended period these days isn't as complicated as it was in decades past with internet and WiFi access quickly spreading to virtually all but the most remote locations, such mundane tasks as paying bills can be done with an onboard computer or even a mobile phone. That said, check with your home insurance company to see if they have restrictions on policy cover if you intend to leave your property empty and unattended, as some may claim it invalidates your insurance policy.
