Lloyd's Register Foundation has an evidence-led strategy, which means using evidence in a range of ways. A key role of the Foundation's Evidence and Insight Centre is to commission research and fund programmes that identify and create the best available evidence to improve our understanding of where harm is occurring across the world - and inform our strategic focus. One such programme is our flagship eight-year research initiative, the Lloyd's Register Foundation World Risk Poll, which is the first global study of worry about, and harm from, risks to people's safety. The Poll includes places where little or no official data on safety and risk exists, and so constitutes a unique resource for defining the nature and scale of safety challenges across the world, as reported firsthand. The data offers a direct comparison between how people around the world perceive risks and how they experience them. Understanding these differences can be crucial to informing effective risk management policies and communications.
