Combatants taking part in armed insurgencies often try to take advantage of the natural environment in which they operate. Lightly armed, they are able to avoid detection by jet-powered fighter-bombers and even survive saturation attacks after specific training. But unlike regular forces, they remain extremely vulnerable to low-speed, ultra-agile aircraft with sufficient payloads to perform the entire 'Find, Fix, and Finish' cycle. In most cases, COIN aircraft are civilian trainer or transport aircraft that have been modified to varying degrees. Only some of them, such as the Argentine Pucara or the Bronco, have been developed specifically for this mission.
