Last year, according to projections, EEI's member companies invested nearly $140 billion in clean energy resources and the infrastructure necessary to make the energy grid smarter, stronger, more dynamic, and more secure for all customers. Due to our level of investment, our industry is the nation's most capital-intensive industry and supports jobs in communities across the United States. Not only do our investments help to integrate more renewable energy resources and facilitate the deployment of a broad array of customer-facing smart technologies, but they are also key to delivering a host of other benefits, too. They help to protect the energy grid from extreme weather and from cyber and physical attacks; they help predict and prevent outages; and they help companies respond to and restore power faster when outages do occur.
