As a longtime collector of stamps related to geoscience, I am delighted to report that Charles Darwin together with his voyage on the HMS Beagle (1831-1836), his book On the Origin of the Species (1856) and his theory of evolution, is the most featured scientist on postage stamps. Why is this important? Being number one always means something significant. Moreover, postage stamps carry messages and motifs across cities, mountains, oceans, countries and centuries. Darwin, who lived between 1809-1882 in England, has a living legacy and has been a good ambassador of geosci-ence on postage stamps worldwide: 321 stamps issued by 69 countries-according to the present database.
