TRANSOCEAN has reached a deal with an offshoot of Singapore's Sembcorp Marine over deferred payments and delayed delivery for a pair of world-first ultra-deepwa-ter drillships. The rig giant's agreement with Jurong Shipyard covers the world's first so-called "eighth-generation units" Deepwater Atlas and Deep-water Titan, which have lined up work with Beacon Offshore Energy and Chevron, respectively, for ultra-high-pressure developments in the US Gulf of Mexico. The units, which Transocean has labelled the "highest specification rigs in the world", will be the first to come with 20,000 pounds per square inch well control systems - the so-called "20k" system. The Deepwater Atlas is now set to be delivered in December, having been delayed from the third quarter of last year.
