The average daily temperature dropped more than 10 degrees Fahrenheit in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas on Nov. 12, according to CustomWeather data, as a cold front moved into the region. Peakload demand dropped by 7.51, however, as the beginning of the weekend pushed down electricity usage. At the same time, wind generation dropped by 52.7, or nearly 9 GW, while solar generation rose by almost 300 to reach 3.14 GW, according to the Independent System Operator. Consequently, Platts’ wind on-peak Renewable Penetration Index dropped by 23.31 percentage points, while the Solar RPI rose 7.76 percentage points.
