2022 has been a very challenging year for the healthcare field, and even the world at large. On the positive front, strides in the implementation of sound epidemiological practice and the continued roll-out of improved vaccines have brought the COVID-19 pandemic under relative control. We truly live in a global community, and any disturbance to its delicate equilibrium can have far-reaching consequences. 2022 also marks the publishing of this third issue of our Journal, and the conclusion of volume 1- a small, but hopefully significantly positive milestone! Within this issue are a number of interesting papers that relate to both economic and other operational parameters within healthcare. Amongst those papers, Greenberg and Quinn profile one of the major insurance carriers, Controlled Risk Insurance Company (CRICO). The authors explain how the organization seeks to improve patient outcomes by reducing medical error and consequent malpractice liability. CRICO "mines" analogous data from carriers across the country. This effort leads to establishing practice guidelines promulgated by CRICO, to assist its physician-clients in avoiding sometimes catastrophic practice errors.
