Rubber dam clamps: friend or foe?

The use of rubber dams in dentistry dates back to 1864.1 Metal clamps were soon introduced and in over a century, very little has changed in terms of design. Although the benefits of rubber dam use are once again being lauded in the literature because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we would like to raise a cautionary flag, and remind readers to pause and think before placing metal clamps.
