Aerospace applications can range from in-laboratory testing to on-range ballistics and explosives testing. Phantom high-speed cameras can be found in a wide variety of aerospace research applications providing the world's fastest imaging technology while delivering clear and detailed data for researchers. Aerospace supplier Ametek Ameron has a product portfolio that includes fire suppression systems for engines, APUs, cargo bays and lavatories as well as high pressure vessels and pyrotechnic cartridges for a wide variety of commercial and military fixed wing and rotorcraft platforms. Ameron researchers relied on Phantom cameras during a two-part testing scenario. The first test was on-range, utilizing ballistics firing to imitate the tumbling damage of shrapnel that a fire suppression canister can suffer when on a military plane. By imitating the tumbling effect, the researchers were able to use highspeed footage to analyze how and where ruptures were occurring. This analysis helped them to develop stronger canisters with more predictable behavior when damaged.
