Italian commandos from the elite San Marco Marine Brigade stormed a Turkish cargo ship 90 miles off Naples last month (June) after a group of stowaway asylum seekers tried to seize control. The 15 Afghans, Iraqis, and Syrians (13 men and two women) had sneaked aboard the Ro-Ro cargo ship Galata Seaways as she set off from Topcular in Turkey. The vessel was bound for Sete in France. Partway through the journey the stowaways were discovered due to the shipboard CCTV system. Armed with knives, they then attempted to take some of the 22 crew hostage on the ship's bridge.
